Hello, i'm new to the forum and was hoping for a little advice prior to buying my new friend.
I'm looking for a new parrot and have decided upon a Senegal. The cost of a new bird is an issue - from what i've seen they usually go for about £250 from a breeder. However, a local pet-shop/breeder sells all his parrots with a free cage - good sized ones as well - which obviously saves me a couple of hundred pounds.
He has a Senegal in which he says is 'semi-tame'. I've not been to see the bird...
I've only had Kiwi for a few weeks now, and I wanted to let her settle in before I get her on a proper diet. She was being fed seeds and nuts at the pet shop, so I kept her on that diet during the transition.
Now I want her to have a more balanced diet. From what I've heard she should be on a pellet diet most of the time with fresh fuits and veggies every day, with seeds and nuts being treats that she should get maybe once or twice a week. Does that sound correct? The pellet food I intend to use is...
This little one picked me! I had no intention of getting another bird. We already had a male Orange Winged Senegal. I went to the pet store to look for something for our 19 year old Siamese cat. I stopped to say "hello" to the birdies. That was that! Hubby could stop to meet her on his way home from work, so I stayed awhile to wait. She cost almost 3 times as much as we paid for our Senegal. Ouch! And she went home with us the next day, after we found a suitable cage for her. Her name is...
Does anyone have any experiences with Senegal Parrots and cats?
Is it allright to allow interaction between them? My senegal (Chumley, he lives
with his cage door open at all times) lately he has taken a liking to going for
"walk-abouts" where he climbs down and searches out my cats. While it appears Chumley is not a threat to my cats I am worried that he will turn aggresive if I allow this behavior to continue. My cats (Missy and KC) were both babies when I brought them home, so they are not...
I have a two year old Senegal who can be a darling, but has taken to munching on our fingers (most of the time it isn't a bite, more of a light chewing!). Thought it might mean she wanted minerals and bought her a block but that hasn't helped - any thoughts?
Also she's taken to really screaming when we leave the room, or even stand up to leave the room....how can we reduce this for our neighbours' sakes?
Any advice greatfully recieved!!
I everyone. It's been awhile since I've posted.... I apologize for that. You guys probably don't even remember me lol. As i didn't even post much when i did post! lol
Anyway, back then was looking into getting a Senegal baby or Conure baby. Well guess what!? I put a deposit on a young sennie last week. He (he's a male) is about 9 weeks now... and will come home sometime in march after he's weaned and fledged. I visited him last weekend. Let me tell you, it is way too hard to put in words! It is truly...
George my 5 months old Senegal male had a shower today and later in the day when he was dry I noticed this white sort of dandruff stuff- like flakes and powder on his back. Is this just dried skin and dander? Some of the pieces were fairly large, like small bread crumbs.
I allow him to get himself in and out of the shower (I put my head in and act parrot happy and he gets in too) and usually he just choses to wash his head and his breast and tail and a little bit on the back of the wings but today he...
We've just acquired a senegal from my brother, it woudnt go near him but seems to love me :D
I've been ensuring he has a varied diet of fruit, veg and seeds, even some lean chicken. But I was wondering if it is ok to give him a meal worm or cricket every now and then?
Hi, could someone please tell me if a senegal parrot would make a good family pet ,as i've been looking for a pet parrot for some time,I have been offered the pick of a hand reared clutch of baby senegals.Should i get a male or a female and will they get on with other birds in the same household? as i would like more parrots in the future.thanks
Just wanted to say hello. We just became the proud companions of a 4 month old Senegal named Pepper. She's our first bird and we're very excited to have her as part of the family. She's not very consistent with "Step Up" yet but we're working on it.
We just purchased a baby Senegal parrot a month ago. He just turned 4 months old. He gets along fantastically great with me. He gets along pretty good with my husband. Until about two weeks ago, he got along pretty
good with my 9 year old son. Then without ANY provocation - I supervise ALL activities - (he was perched on my finger first time it happened) he became extremely aggressive towards my son. He bit my son and drew blood. My son did not react (having been warned beforehand that birds love...
Hello Everyone, :)
I would like to introduce Paulie a beautiful nine-month old Senegal Parrot full of charm, love, and playfulness. Ever since, I saw her at the pet store she won me over with her charm, she greeted me with a whistle and some cute clicking noises to get my attention. I whistled to her and she responded back to me so I asked the pet store attendant about her and she said that she was tame and friendly. She took her out so I could pet her and hold her, and when I had her in...
Im new on here, i have a senegal parrot who really wastes alot of food I have been feeding him seeds with fresh fruit but he seems to throw it all on the floor. The only things he will really eat is the seeds out of a chilly and tomatoes he will eat an odd bit of fruit. I have tryed him on cooked pasta today but he didnt like that one bit.
Can any one help with some other good food which he may like?
