Parrot Perches

Rubyanne is my African Grey who is 4 months old and has only been part of my family for 4 nights now. The problem I'm having is that in the middle of the night she has fallen to the bottom of her cage. This has happened on night 1 and night 2. Fortunately she was not injured and the measures I took to prevent this in the future was I made a landing just beneath her perch at the top of her cage. I just purchased yet another book on parrots in general and there is a section on building your own perch. Has anyone here ever done this? It seems really simple. Find a nice sturdy branch that has some nice size perching branches shooting off. Fill a large flower pot with quick set cement and stick the branch inside...and voila! Let it set up and then you have a brand new and much much cheaper than buying a 'play center' perch and climbing area! This sounds simple but am I missing something?...
