The first few nights...

Rubyanne210:
Rubyanne is my African Grey who is 4 months old and has only been part of my family for 4 nights now. The problem I'm having is that in the middle of the night she has fallen to the bottom of her cage. This has happened on night 1 and night 2. Fortunately she was not injured and the measures I took to prevent this in the future was I made a landing just beneath her perch at the top of her cage. The cage is about 6' tall and 37" wide and 26" deep. Anyway she is only likes sleeping near the top of...

Introducing Your Parrot to a New Human

LiquidIce:
From time to time, we have someone come into our lives and homes that aren't "parrot people" and don't understand a lot about the birds in our home. They may find them pretty to look at, but these non-parrot people generally fall into two categories: those who do not wish to meet and interact with your feathered family members and those who truly interested in meeting and learning to interact with your feathered kids. Explain about Parrots to the Human Before bringing the parrot near the...

Make your own perches?!?!

Autumn:
I just purchased yet another book on parrots in general and there is a section on building your own perch. Has anyone here ever done this? It seems really simple. Find a nice sturdy branch that has some nice size perching branches shooting off. Fill a large flower pot with quick set cement and stick the branch inside...and voila! Let it set up and then you have a brand new and much much cheaper than buying a 'play center' perch and climbing area! This sounds simple but am I missing something?...
