It's the last two that concern me the most. I would start with just those and may be one more and see what happens, but I have the ability to do this type of thing myself and could easily clip more if necessary, with out going to the vet, which is why I suggested you might consider doing all the clipped ones, or at least half. I just hope they are open to doing this. My fear is that they will tell you to just try to distract vinnie, and the result will be a life long habit.

Hey Kimba:

Back on the sweater thread:
Feather Sweater for Parrots

They're out of wide. Do you think you'd go for the extra wide (Congo African Greys or Amazons) or extra large (Umbrella or Moluccan Cockatoos) ?

Apparently it fastens in the back with velcro -- I guess the harness would go underneath? I think this should be okay since Vin isn't actually flying, and I usually arrange the harness buckle at the top of his back, between his wings, as he waddles around like a puppy dog....

Thanks!

Just to follow up. I have Vinnie's sweater but it's been too warm to need it. Like the harness, I'm opting not to put it on him unless we're actually using it, so I'm not sure how it fits. Neck might be a bit big while the body might be a bit short, but we'll see.

Regarding Vinnie's feathers, it's been over a week since he had the outer ones trimmed short. And I'm looking under his wings when he stretches and flexes, and everything looks good! Some of the smaller feathers are a little ragged around the edges, but nothing is stripped! Vinnie's vet tech watched some of his videos on YouTube ( YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. ) and after seeing how he plays and bathes, thinks maybe he was just rough on those feathers. I've certainly witnessed him use his wings like arms to climb up perches and toys, etc., so it's possible that is what caused the damage.

Just wanted to let you know, I don't think he is chewing them -- at least not with his beak!

Today a successful outing to the Farmer's Market at Union Square. We picked up Indian Corn, two ferns, and a hot pepper plant! If the kind gentlemen who took Vinnie's picture on our walk home indeed email them to me, I will have more pics soon!
