I have Murphy, his brother Ronin and sister, Asia.
How old is Anka? I've been working/volunteering a lot this year as compared to last, when I brought The Murphster home. So socializing these two guys has been slower....Basically, Vasa babies are whiners, these two are no exception. So when Iwork with them, just as I did with Murphy, I take them out of their cage and plop them on my lap. They'll get a 10cc syringe of babyfood as enticement. Then they play peek-a-boo, whether they want to or not, whining the first part, then get into it during the second. Last night I started working on step up. But to tell you the truth, I hate Vasa bites, so I have been holding them by the back of their heads and having them step up that way. They are getting it and I assume that within a few days, will do it automatically. These two are only lightly clipped. Murphy is more than fully clipped and yet can still fly......you could try clipping her, but I think just spending as much time with her will eventually work. It's hard for me to say why Anka is standoffish as none of my guys are. You could try calling Carol at 1-925-698-0191. She is a vasa breeder in California. I spoke with her about the females and was given the name of someone who bought one a few years ago. That other woman and I talked quite a bit. That female is her second. The first was lost......so call Carol and tell her Cherie in Colorado, gave you her number. Ask her whatever you want and also if you could have the number of the other woman, sorry, I can't remember her name.....if she has forgotten who I am, which is not likely as I have dibs on her nicest/largest female from next year's clutch, just remind her.....
Please keep us posted.....and good luck. If I come u p with anything else, I'll post it.
Anka hatched April 19 of this year & I picked her up the weekend of June 9. I'm not going to clip her, at least not yet. That is sort of a last resort move and from the sounds of it may not do any good, anyway.
shhh.....we might get yet another vasa owner, found him on myspace, rather he inadvertently found me, gave him the link to find us. He has a baby girl vasa.....we are slowly building our empire, hehe.....
I am copying something from my friend, Lisa, who has a male Vasa, Maddy (AKA Vasa Madda You?). He came from Featherlust 7 years ago.......
I glanced thru the emails on the parrotforum, but didn't see how old Anka is and how long she's had Anka. My gut reaction is that she is pushing too hard. Let things come in their own time. I didn't know any better with Maddie and that's what we did and look where we are now. They have their own ideas about things and can be stubborn. Even tho' they are extremely smart, or maybe because they are, it doesn't mean they want to do everything we want them to do in the time we want it done in. You know?? Sit back and enjoy the time with them without expectations
Nice work, Kimba! Our plan to have Vasa World Dominance (VWD as we should call it from now on so all the other parrot lovers arent on to us...) Is finally coming true!
Anka was born april 19th from what I remember. Maybe Molly has her brother, born on the 20th. Anka went home begining of June-ish....
