Exclamation dangerous goffin PLEASE HELP!!!

im in need of some serious help, my goffin cockatoo has just bitten me very hard in the face, right underneath my working eye. he was sitting on the arm of the sofa as i walked up to speak to my mum, and all of a sudden he flew at my face and bit me.

this isnt the first time hes done this, he attacks any male in the house and bites, most of the time with absolutely no provoking.

we've tryed loads of ways of stopping this, but its not working, although he goes through stages of about 4-5 weeks of being really good with me and my mum he will always attack every man that comes near him.

anyone got any ideas or suggestions?

Unfortunately your dealing with hormones and there's not much you can do. You said he flew at you... You might want to consider clipping him. Also limit the places he's allowed to hang out. Most people let there bird have the run of the house but for an unclipped bird that is not flight trained and hormonal this situation quickly becomes a nightmare. The bird views the whole house as his territory, and for cockatoos as well as other birds that means the house needs to be defended against any threats and apparently all males in your house are considered a threat. If he is only allowed to hang out on play stands than he can defend those and not the entire house. This will not solve a hormonal biting problem but it will make it easier to live with and a little more predictable. just (if your male) don't walk to close to the stands when he is in this mood. Also make sure stands are placed in corners of room or at the very least NOT in a main walkway or next to a door way. This way you and the bird can see each other approaching and be able to gage each other mood better. Take comfort in the knowledge that it is hormonal and therefore only seasonal. Just don't reward him accidentally with the drama of yelling at him for biting it will only make it worse and teach him to bite. Then you will have a bird that attacks whether he is or is not hormonal.

Did he know you were walking up or did it suprise him? If I move up on Simon too fast it startles him and he will react in a defensive manner ... I always talk to him when I approach him to make sure that he knows I am there and to make sure his atention is on me.
