.. I recommend using natural peanut butter in all recipes and especially on treats of peanut butter toast (used sparingly) ,, since the usual brands contain some hydrogenated oils that are artery clogging to humans...
I've always been told to not use natural peanut butter for parrots. FDA screening for Aspergillious(sp) is much less of a standard than for "regular" peanut butter, while this is fine for humans, (I use the natural for myself) it is not fine for parrots and the chances of them getting aspergillious from natural peanut butter can be pretty high. This has also been word of mouth by other parrot people for a long time but I've never actualy looked into the validity of it. If anybody knows if this is in fact true, speak up!
The more I read about FDA regulations and peanut butter, as well as a host of other sources the more I see the rule about natural peanut butter and aspergillose and parrots don't mix. I believe it is fine and better for us humans. But this also makes me wonder if the same holds true about Name brand natural peanut butter? Like smuckers all natural. As opposed to something from the health food store.
I've heard the same about the natural peanut butter having Aspergillious from many parrot experts.I'd rather be safe than sorry. My babies mean too much to me.
I want the best for my babies and although I love natural, I would rather be safe than sorry. I use organic peanut butter that have non-refined and non-hydranated organic palm oil(whch is good) and organic sea salt and organic sugar. It is a bit more expensive but it is safe and it tastes good.
Last week I noticed a couple of new varieties of Kraft peanut butter. I think one was sugar and salt free, and the other may have been all-natural, whatever that means.
