detergent diluting??

Can someone tell me how to dilute detergent?? I don't actually really understand what diluting is but I'm guessing it means to add a substance to a liquid to make the chemicals less or something .. I am very worried since one of my detergents has bleach in it, and another has a fabric softener in it and so it gives off a very strong smell. The detergent I use is Tide. There's Tide with bleach, and then there is Tide with Downy fabric softener. What should I do? I need some advice asap.
