Please consider very carefully what you are doing. Breeding birds is not a matter of putting a male and female together and allowing nature to 'take its course'. You need to have a lot of knowledge and a mentor to guide you step by step. You obviously know very little about the subject if you are trying to breed your birds at the beginning of winter. Birds don't breed on the 'off' season in nature and only bad breeders do it. Bad breeders who don't care if the birds end up depleted by the time they are ten years old or the babies they produce are sickly.

Besides all that, parrots and all psittacines are in overpopulation in USA, the rescues and sanctuaries are overwhelmed by the huge number of birds that are homeless. Parrots don't make good pets. They are messy, noisy, destructive, nippy, expensive and very difficult to keep happy and healthy in the long term plus the novelty wears off after a while and the owner doesn't want to deal with the bird any longer. Result: another homeless bird. To make matters worse, poicephalus become aggressive when older so there are a lot of them in rescues and we are getting more and more every day.

If you love your birds, take good care of them and enjoy them but don't breed. No true bird lover would.

My dear, the UK is in the Northern Hemisphere, same as USA, so, no, the seasons are not different. You are, same as us, going into your winter and, I repeat, birds do not breed on the off-season (this is not my opinion, it's a rule of Nature). Anybody can make any bird breed all year round if he manipulates light, food and temperature. But it is unnatural and the birds pay with their health... Mother Nature always knows best. And yes, there is a lot of people who don't agree with me but it's usually people who really don't know that much about birds or who care more about the babies they can sell than they do about their birds' health.
