CJ, i commend you on your dedication to learn everything there is to know about parrots and behavior - do you plan on becoming an avian vet some day?
overdoing it, thought, could be a bad thing - you might just get bored of the whole thing
well, if you wish, i have 4 books on parrot behavior, 2 of which are from Mattie Sue Athan called "Guide to a Well-Behaved Parrot" and "Guide to Companion Parrot Behavior". You dont need to get both - either one or the other because they both pretty much say the same thing. good books.
another is by Bonnie Munro Doane called "Parrot Training: A Guide to Taming and Gentling your Avian Companion". Great book with great ideas. i love the cute illustrations in there too.
the one book i have that i just skimmed and didn't like - cant really remember the specifics about why i disliked it, but i remember thinking that what this woman wrote went against many thoughts of other parrot behaviorists, including the other two authors mentioned above, was a book by Barbara Heidenreich "The Parrot Problem Solver". For some reason, this book just didnt agree with me. the ironic thing is that she seems to be a well-known behaviorist with parrots and other animals around the san francisco bay area - she even puts on a lot of seminars around here. i guess she must be doing something right, but im not interested in her techniques. i think i have to read it again to see what i didn't like about it....
all this was to figure out pico...but i wish i bought the first 3 books when i got my 2 conures. i would've made them less of the spoiled brats that they currently are. lol
alot more information i have accumulated has also come from a list of websites that i have dug up.
cant wait to see what other bird people are reading!
