August 15, 2007 -- Martha Stewart's favorite animal-care expert was crying fowl yesterday after burglars broke into his Long Island pet store and stole 45 high-priced parrots.

The thieves raided Parrots of the World in Rockville Centre sometime between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m., police said.

They made off with a variety of pricey parrots - including African Greys, cockatoos and Amazons - valued at roughly $60,000.

The store's owner, Marc Morrone, appears regularly on Martha Stewart's television and radio programs as a resident pet expert.

"She called me this morning," Morrone said. "She was hysterical like I was."

He said the thieves brought their own cages "but they left them here and just took mine. At least the birds weren't ripped out of their cages."

Morrone said he feared for the parrots' safety, as many of them are young and require specialized diets and care.

"If they get too stressed out, they die," he said. "And I'm sure they are stressed out right now."

He said he was unaware of any local black market for exotic birds that could accommodate such a big haul.

"I'm thinking they had them pre-sold," he said.

Morrone, known as "The Petkeeper," brings his animals on Stewart's shows. None of the stars - such as Harvey the rabbit, Darwin the parrot and Prunella the guinea pig - were touched.

Anyone with information about the heist is asked to call Crime Stoppers .

I read a post from someone who bought their birds from that store and she said that Mark the owner thought it was Mexicans that stole the birds to sell in Porta Rico...

Thats the latest news I have heard.

I found this video of his store and I think his store is awful.
Over crowded and anyone and evryone can poke at the birds.

Here is another video.

What a stand up guy..
These animals should not be next to each other. He is hurting these animals for the sake of his show

Thank you for showing me that! I've never been there, but alway heard good things. I agree his shop is over crowded! And it would be better suited to have that bird room set up as an aviary with perches hanging from the ceiling. And the macaws should not be standing on the smaller birds cages! Pooping on them and potentially taking off toes. But the video of all the animals takes the cake! That's horrible!

So maybe it wasn't a theft. Maybe it was PETA.

I hope the birds weren't stollen from any organization(although I understand) I think places like that need to be shut down in a legal manner. If people steal birds and other animals it only complicates things for people who are trying to change the laws. Then the law makers assume that all animal lovers are just making stuff up and stealing animals..

That store is ungodly dirty, overcrowded and nobody in their right mind should be encouriging the sale of so many cockatoos!!! Martha likes this guy? What? I thought she had better judgement than that. I hope wherever those birds are, they are ok. The sad reality of it is that some I am sure have died, and the rest I bet re-banded and sold to other pet stores. The whole situation sucks.
