My husband's boss gave him the macaw, I am not sure of his age.........we do know that he was neglected and abused when little. He tries to bite anyone who touches the cage, but when we let him out he does better, he loves to be outside, we let him sit on the deck with us. I am worried that he is going to bite my baby girl.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, any resources would be great as well. Thanks |

It was very kind of you to take him in, poor thing, but abused macaws are not easy animals to care for and they do need somebody with experience (they can bite a finger or a nose off with no problem) so I am not sure if this is going to work out for you. He needs a lot of patience and somebody who would work with him on a daily basis but, unfortunately, this is not something that you can learn from a posting or two in the internet. I would suggest you find a good bird rescue near you and ask them to mentor you because there are a lot of techniques you will need to learn in order to rehabilitate him.
