hey guys
looking for a bit of help.
i bought a cockatiel today. i believe he is about 5 months old.
how long should it take for him to settle in? he is squalking like mad at the moment and hasnt stopped moving around his cage. i have left him on his own for a while to settle but he was worse. im sitting in the room with him at the moment with a radio on and he isnt squalking as much but i think he is just panicking and moving around the place and not settled at all.
roughly how long should it be till he settles down a bit.
also i dont believe he was hand reared so how is it best to go about taming him?
anything else i should know?
Are you sure your Cockatiel is only 5 months?Do you have a hatch certificate?
Did you get it from a reputable place? The way it sounds to me is that it's not weaned and so it may not be 5 months old.If it isn't 5 months old and isn't weaned it needs proper food to be weaned. It may be hungry and need to be fed.I would advise you to get clarification about the age as well as whether it was properly weaned. If you don't know how to handfeed bring it back to where you got him and have them wean it.If it is weaned then I would make sure it has plenty of food and water where it can reach it.Also make sure you take it to a certified Avian Vet for a wellness check up.I wish you well and please keep us posted.
thanks sachagirl
yeah he is weaned. he has actually settled down an awful lot. i have seen him eating a drinking too.
i got him from a petshop. not the best place i know but he is here now
he has been playing with his toys too and is very alert and chirping when he sees people coming in or out. ive been talking to him a bit to get him used to me and my voice too.
Well that's good I was beginning to worry. It must of been because the change of it's living arrangements.I hope everything works out for the both of you.
