NO! Green cheeks are territorial by nature, so even if they get along outside the cage with supervision, I would NOT house them together.

Kimba is right, and even if they did get along, birds NEED their own places for refuge. By the way..... why would you get rid of your parakeets just to get another bird? Animals are not cars that should be traded in. AND you maye be suprised when your green cheek gets loud, then what? get rid of him? Birds are and can be loud. You need to put that first. Green cheeks have no idea they are supposed to be quiet. Every individual is different. it is the exeption, not the rule. Please know the difference, and consider you may end up with a loud green cheek, BEFORE you get one.

I agree...........cockatiels are more docile and green cheeks are more agressive........at least that has been my experience. If my cockatiel were alive with the GCC I have now, there would be a war! I definitately would NOT house them together.

My oldest daughter has a GCC and he can be very aggersive. Also his chirp can not only be loud but very pircing. He also talks a bit. If you want quite I would go with another cockatiel.

It is very doubtful your green cheek will get along with your tiel, and I know this from personal experience. I have both and here's what their behavior is in my case:

Harvey (the green cheek) meets Archemeides (aka: Spaz) for the first time. Harvey comes over to investigate. Spaz hisses and back away. Harvey follows, Spaz hisses more and crouches real low in a defensive position. Harvey gets closer and Spaz tries to bite so Harvey bites back. Spaz yelps and the two are immediately separated.

After four months, Harvey's lost interest in going anywhere near Spaz, but when he comes close, Spaz hisses and goes ballistic trying to get away. I don't pretend to understand why they don't get along, and I really wish they did, but they don't.

As for caging- unless they're a mated pair, you should never cage parrots together. They'll grow strong bonds towards each other and become aggressive to you, the owner, when you try to handle either of them.
