Re: Where are the Caique people?
I purchased my Caique from a reputable family owned pet store. The owner got all her birds from breeders and would hand feed them until you were able to take them home. I had never heard of a Caique before and when I explained to her what qualities I wanted in a bird she suggested the White bellied Caique. She had a breeder who had eggs that were expected to hatch within a few weeks. After researching to make sure this was the bird i wanted, She had me come several times a week to bond with my bird, and she educated me on how to take care of him. Well, I call him a boy, apparently there is no way to tell the sex of a Caique unless you get them DNA tested. I have not had this done yet, but I just think of him as a boy. I will say he was a bit pricey, but of course, I shopped around to make sure this was the perfect bird. I went online and just did a search for parrot breeders or Caique breeders in my area. I found several breeders (Texas), but only a handful of Caique breeders. The price was pretty much the same price as the pet store I visited. I also researched other parrot breeds and found that price was average compared to the price of others types of parrots. Most of the ones I was interested in were over a thousand dollars. I wasn't ready to invest that much!!!! I decided that for the qualities this bird had, he was definatley worth the price. He was beautiful, bright colored, great personality, social, not noisy, some speaking potential, hand fed, and tame. And he would be a great companion for many years. They live much longer than any other pet. I made the right decision, Midori is definately a true family member now. So I recommend going online and search for breaders in your area. Most breeders will refer you to another breeder who breeds Caiques if they don't. Good luck on your search!! Enjoy, they are truly wonderful
