R-COM, a Korean company manufacturing digital egg incubators and several other bird breeders products, is represented in Israel by "Ranchuk" - Ran Shtutman and Shay Zecharia. We contacted Shay and asked for sample products for review and examination; Shay kindly agreed to cooperate and arrived at our meeting with a number of products for us to review.
During our meeting, Shay presented us with catalogs and demonstrated the products with confidence and professionalism, including a detailed explanation about every product we received. By the end of our meeting we felt we have got all the information required to start working with these products.
Here, we will review the RCOM digital scales.
External packaging
The Scales are packed in a prestigious looking leather case (see picture).
Usage
The scales do not arrive with instructions, however, it is very simple to operate and there are illustrated instructions (in Korean only) of every button on the inner side of the lid (see picture).
The scales are operated by 4 buttons: Turn on/off, calibration/reset, weight units (ounce, gram etc) and pieces number (i.e. how many eggs are weighed).
The scales surface is small and smooth, thus requires close attention when weighing eggs which may roll away from the surface. A rough matt is required for safer usage. In addition, due to the small surface area, we had to use an additional tray or box to put the hatchling in, in order to weigh large hatchlings such as jakoos. This caused the coverage of the screen and it was impossible to view the weighing results.
Conclusion
The product's properties are both its pluses and its minuses; it is easy to operate, compact and mobile. However, due to its small surface size, a larger tray for hatchlings is required. A rough matt or pad will partially solve the problem, by enabling the weighing of eggs and small hatchlings. Unfortunately, the scales did not fit our needs, which include the weighing of eggs/hatchlings in various sizes.
Advantages
● Mobile and easy use
● Calibration option
Disadvantages
● Small surface
● Smooth surface
● Screen is hidden when using a hatchling tray
● Expensive
Final grade : 6
