Default What do I do?!?

I just recently purchased a little 2-year-old Goffin cockatoo named Delilah. She's the sweetest thing ever and I love her to death. The only problem is that after I give her fresh food in her bowl (which is tightly secured to the inside of her cage, not allowing her to tip it), within the next couple hours, all of her food will be thrown out onto the floor of her cage. It's really costing me food-wise to constantly keep up with her food throwing habits. I can't tell if it's because she doesn't like this kind of food (even though I see her eating it), or if it's because she wants more attention (which I give her plenty)...

Anybody have any advice as to what is wrong or what I can do save all this perfectly good food?

Thanks,
Eevie

That is perfectly normal for many parrots to do.There are many things you can do try putting less food in the bowl which will allow less for Delilah to throw from the bowl. Also you may want to purchase the kabobs that hang from the top of the cage I believe Dr.Foster &Smith sells them. They make it more fun for the parrots to eat rather then to toss the food.I know what your going through as we're going through the same thing with 2 of our Greys and yes it is very expensive and a lot of the food gets wasted. The other thing to do is cut the food into smaller pieces if they can't pick it up fast enough to throw it she'll have no other choice but to eat it.I hope that some of this helps you.

I agree. My UM does this, and I have just stopped giving him a lot of pellets. He does not do it with his fruit and veg etc. Those pellets go flying! So I give small amounts and this seems to deter him. As if he knows if he flings it, it's gone.
Good luck!

Welcome to too world!!! LOL My U2 does this alal the time. Usually it is because at that time she doesn't want it, but then I will later see her go to the bottom of her cage and grab it. That is why you have to clean their cages daily!

Just try not giving her as much. That might help

Lol i have a two year old goffin also (she's my little rockstar) named lucee and she does the same thing. She likes to pick up her mix and throw it over her back like she's bathing in it lol the only thing that has minimized it for me is putting less in the bowl and putting fresh food in there right before I take her out that way when she goes back in she's tuckered out and hungry so she just eats a bit and then heads for her favorite purch for a nap.

Happy tooing!
