Default New Bird / Old Cat / Both?

Hi Everyone...
I have been wanting a bird for quite some time now. My problem is I own a cat, who is very much an "instinctive hunter". I say that, because he is very, very well fed.

I really fell in love w/the Indian Ringneck and then found some videos of the Alexandrine (what a BEAK!!!!). I've searched the internet for local breeders, not too much luck there. Needless to say, my friend and I visit the local PetCo ALL the time. She actually got her Quaker there about 3 years ago. I always swore I would not buy a bird from a petstore, but the people there do SUCH a wonderful jobs with the babies that come to them. Still with me here? Two weeks ago on one of our regular visits, they brought me out a 6 wk old Alexandrine!!! I've been to visit him/her each weekend since.

The problem....remember? The (16 y.o.) cat!!!!! I feel awful because I want the bird SOOOOO badly, but I am just not sure how/if I can bring it into my home because of the cat. My husband seems to think we can manage it....I feel I'm being a bad person if I bring that lovely baby here, because of the UNKNOWN.....

I'm sure I will get lots of negative comments here IF I get any at all....I guess I would just like to hear what others have to say, but please be nice if you have a negative opinion. I've never owned a bird before, so I'm sure I'd be nervous a bit at first, but then add the cat to the equation and I'm a bit more nervous. Thanks for listening......
