Make your own perches?!?!

I just purchased yet another book on parrots in general and there is a section on building your own perch. Has anyone here ever done this?

It seems really simple. Find a nice sturdy branch that has some nice size perching branches shooting off. Fill a large flower pot with quick set cement and stick the branch inside...and voila! Let it set up and then you have a brand new and much much cheaper than buying a 'play center' perch and climbing area!

This sounds simple but am I missing something? I plan on doing this soon, so I will let everyone know how it goes unless I am given advice not to try this!
